Mother, daughter robbed at gunpoint after leaving church
A 25-year-old woman and her mother were accosted and robbed by a lone gunman on Wednesday night, shortly after they left church and were making their way home at Concrete Strip, Ruimzeight, West Coast Demerara.
The News Room understands that Ann McDonald was robbed of $60,000 in cash and one black Samsung J7 cellphone valued $80,000, while the gunman beat the mother in the head with the gun.
Police said that McDonald and her mother left church at around 19:30hrs and went to the public road to get a minibus.
They caught a minibus and exited at Ruimzeight public road; McDonald took out her cell phone to use her flashlight while her mother was walking behind her. McDonald told the police that she turned around and saw an unidentifiable male, who whipped out a handgun and told them both to remain quiet.
He relieved the young lady of the cash and phone and in the process dealt a blow to the mother’s head with the said handgun. The suspect then escaped in a silver-grey fielder wagon.
Police investigations are ongoing.
