22-Y-0 robbery suspect shot dead by cops at Ogle seawall

A 22-year-old man, who was wanted in connection with robberies and wounding, was shot dead by police in the wee hours of Friday at the Ogle Seawall, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

Dead is Sherwin Filley, known as ‘Red Ants’ of Plaisance, ECD; the incident occurred at around 01:50h.

Police Headquarters in a statement noted that Filley was wanted in connection with robbery, robbery with violence and three counts of wounding committed on a 50-year-old resident of Vryheid’s Lust, ECD.

According to the police, ranks received information about Filley and went to an abandoned wooden shack at the Ogle seawall where he was locked inside.

As a result, the police decided to force open the door and attempted to apprehend Filley, who was armed with a cutlass. The police statement noted that the suspect then attacked the cops, who discharged a round, which struck Filley to his eye.

Filley was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His body is at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting post mortem examination.
