A fire which destroyed the home of a primary school teacher, Renita Joseph, and her family, received assistance from the Ministry of Education.

The Chief Education Officer, Dr Marcel Huston, visited Joseph and her family and presented a package comprising of an HP Laptop, accessories, and monetary assistance.

Joseph’s Good Intent, West Bank Demerara (WBD) house was destroyed by fire of an unknown origin in the wee hours of Thursday; she, her husband, and two young children – ages 10 and three – barely made it out of the house alive.

Dr. Huston, who offered words of comfort and encouragement to the teacher, said that the ministry is concerned about their teachers and will continue to stand by their side.

He added that Friday’s contribution is a testament to how the ministry views and values their teachers and they could not have heard about the tragedy and turn a deaf ear.

Joseph and her husband both expressed gratitude for the gesture, particularly since she is a final year University of Guyana student, and having a new laptop now would help her to complete her studies and to continue teaching her students.
