Guyana Jaguars off to Antigua for Super50

Guyana Jaguars on Saturday morning departed for Antigua to participate in the CG Insurance Super50 Cup, set to bowl off on February 7.

The tournament will run until February 27 and will feature the six traditional territories- Barbados Pride, Guyana Jaguars, Jamaica Scorpions, Leeward Islands Hurricanes, Trinidad and Tobago Red Force and Windward Islands Volcanoes.

Matches will be played at two venues on the island- the Coolidge Cricket Ground and the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

Several notable West Indies senior players will participate in the round-robin tournament, among them white ball captain Kieron Pollard, Test skipper Jason Holder, spinner Sunil Narine, limited-over bowling spearhead Sheldon Cottrell and young batsmen Nicholas Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer.

After the round-robin leg, the top four teams will advance to the semi-finals.

The Guyanese are looking for their first regional 50-over since 2005.

Prior to departure, the Jaguars players had to do two COVID-19 tests. One player- opening batsman Trevon Griffith- returned a positive result and was replaced by wicketkeeper/batsman Kemol Savory.

Upon arrival in Antigua, the Jaguars will undergo two-day room isolation, after which they will do the third test on February 2 and the fourth test on February 6, between which players will be allowed to practice as a group.
