President Ali to address Parliament on February 11

Five months after becoming President of Guyana, Dr. Irfaan Ali is expected to deliver his inaugural address to the Parliament of Guyana on February 11, 2021.

According to the Parliamentary Order Paper for the 18th sitting, the National Assembly will be suspended for a short period to allow for the presidential address to the 12th Parliament.

The sitting which will be held at the Arthur Chung Conference Center (ACCC) will see the President inspecting the Guard of Honor in the forecourt of the ACCC.

When contacted by the News Room on Friday, the President’s Press Unit (PPU) could not say what issues the President intends to speak on.

Minister of Governance and Parliamentary Affairs, Gail Teixeira confirmed to the News Room Dr. Ali will be making his inaugural address as President to the Parliament.

While she could not confirm what he intends to speak on, the minister said she anticipates that he will outline his government’s position on where he intends to take the country over the next five years.

The Minister said she also expects that the President will speak on COVID-19.
