Kitty businesswoman shot during robbery

A 51-year-old businesswoman of Kitty, Georgetown, is in a stable condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital after she was shot during a robbery on Saturday at Bourda Street and North Road.

Police Headquarters in a statement noted that Sheriza Gourga Regis was shot once the left side abdomen after she refused to hand over her bag to the two bandits.

The businesswoman was robbed of her bag containing G$70,000 cash and her cellphone at around 10:45h. It is alleged that two males, one of whom was armed with a handgun, approached Regis on a white XR motorcycle while she was shopping at a stall.

Police said the pillion rider came off the motorcycle and demanded that Regis hand over her bag but she refused; the bandit then grabbed the bag and discharged a round in Regis’ direction which hit her in the abdomen.

The two bandits escaped and Regis was taken to the Georgetown Hospital
