The Guyana Boxing Association’s (GBA) Referees/Judges Commission is now complete and it comprises mostly women. The five-member Commission, which is Chaired by AIBA One Star Referee/Judge, Lawrence Assanah, is made up of three females.

They are Sherece Agard, Denoila Bristol and Nicola Yhap. The trio was selected to be the Committee Members of the Commission, which also includes Vice-Chairman Richard Braithwaite, who is also another One Star AIBA Referee/Judge.

“Selecting females to be a part of the decision making processes is in keeping with the aim of AIBA and other sporting bodies in the world that there be some semblance of balance between the genders,” the GBA said in a release.

According to President of the GBA, Steve Ninvalle, the association has “taken it a bit further” since 60% of the Commission is made up of females.

“We have taken it a bit further in the fact that we have placed the majority in the hands of the females. We will try to see how much we can continue in this vein to ensure that women have their fair share and play their part in the development of boxing in Guyana”.

The Commission was previously Chaired by a female, Ramona Agard.
