An 82-year-old woman died at her Region Ten (Upper Demerara-Berbice) house on Tuesday from COVID-19.

The Ministry of Health noted that a swab test was done on the elderly woman after her body arrived at a medical facility. This latest death takes Guyana’s overall death toll since recording its first case and in March 2020 to 182.

She is also the fifth person to die from the disease for the month of February.

All Guyanese are reminded to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 EMERGENCY MEASURES (NO.14), which are in effect until February 28, 2021. This order emphasises:

  • the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving your home;
  • the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others;
  • and the need for good hand-hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
