A magnificent hundred from Keacy Carty led Leeward Islands Hurricanes to a four-wicket win in a high-scoring game against Barbados Pride in the CG Insurance Super50 Cup on Wednesday.
Playing at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua, Barbados Pride posted 301-8 to which Leeward Islands Hurricanes responded with 305-6 with three balls remaining.
Carty’s run-a-ball 123* was the glue in Hurricanes’ chase as they recorded their first set of points this season, following an opening day loss to Windward Islands Volcanoes. The defeat was Pride’s second in as many games.
Carty, the West Indies 2016 Youth World Cup winner, cracked nine fours and three sixes and received solid support from first game centurion Nitish Kumar, who made 41.
The Powells- Kieran and Ross- chipped in with 25 and 21 respectively, while Devon Thomas made 23, but the real impact towards the back-end of the innings came from Hayden Walsh Jr., who smashed three sixes in 28 off nine.
Jason Holder picked up 2-58 and Chemar Holder had 2-71.
Pride started positively with Zachary McCaskie (40) and Justin Greaves (38) adding 81 for the first wicket, before the top order capitalised to take the score to 244-2.
However, Pride lost their way in the ‘death’ overs as Quinton Boastwain and Hayden Walsh Jr. combined for seven wickets.
Shamarh Brooks missed out on a hundred, falling for 96, while Jonathan Carter made 58 and Roston Chase 33. Boatswain took 4-62 and Walsh Jr. 3-75.
Super50 action continues on Thursday (February 11) with Jamaica Scorpions taking on Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, while on Friday (February 12), Guyana Jaguars will play Leeward Islands Hurricanes.
