Cop arrested after shooting wife to neck
A Sergeant of the Guyana Police Force, who is in charge of the Blairmont Police Station, reportedly shot his reputed wife and the mother of his children, who is also a Special Constable. The suspect has been identified as Colin Whyte while the victim is Shonetta James.
Police Headquarters in a statement revealed that the woman was shot to the neck and is in stable condition at the New Amsterdam Hospital. The suspect was arrested and police said he has since denied the allegation.
According to reports, on Thursday at about 20:30h, the Sergeant went to his wife’s house at Onderneening, West Coast Berbice where she told him the relationship was over “due to continuous misunderstandings”.
An argument ensued during which the Sergeant allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot the woman. Police said he took her to the Fort Wellington Hospital and left her there.
According to the police report the woman was subsequently transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital where she underwent surgery.
The News Room understands that couple shared a 4-year relationship and have two children together. Police said evidence was collected from the scene as the investigation continues.
