Three Guyanese among 19 West Indians in IPL Auction list
Three Guyanese are among 19 West Indians who have been drafted in the Indian Premier League Auction list for the 2021 tournament.
All-rounders Keemo Paul, Sherfane Rutherford and Romario Shepherd and 16 other Caribbean players will hope to get the franchises nod when the action is held in Chennai on February 18.
The other West Indians are Evin Lewis, Sheldon Cottrell, Darren Bravo, Rovman Powell, Oshane Thomas, Fabian Allen, Chemar Holder, Alzarri Joseph, Obed McCoy, Jon Ross Jagessar, Fidel Edwards, Jayden Seales, Carlos Brathwaite, Shannon Gabriel, Kyle Mayers and Akeal Hosein.
While Paul (Delhi Capitals) and Rutherford (Mumbai Indians) were released by their respective franchises ahead of the Auction, Shepherd is looking to get a maiden contract in the world’s most lucrative T20 League.
He would fancy his chances, having shown some outstanding performances, especially with the bat in domestic cricket recently.
Eight West Indians have been retained from last season, namely Dwayne Bravo of Chennai Super Kings, Shimron Hetmyer of Delhi Capitals, Chris Gayle and Nicholas Pooran of Kings XI Punjab, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine of Kolkata Knight Riders, Kieron Pollard of Mumbai Indians and Jason Holder of Sunrisers Hyderabad.
