Public servants will get salary increases – Jagdeo

Vice-President, Bharrat Jagdeo on Saturday confirmed that public sector workers have been catered for in the 2021 National Budget, noting that $10 billion has been allocated for the “revision of wages and salaries.”

“A huge part of that sum will go towards salary increases for public sector workers,” Jagdeo revealed on his Facebook page, in direct response to the opposition A Partnership for National Unity + Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC).

“The APNU+AFC continues to mislead their supporters and the Guyanese public. The latest episode of this is the false claim that there will be no wages and salary increases in 2021 for public servants,” Jagdeo noted.

Former Finance Minister under the APNU+AFC administration, in reacting to the $383.1 billion budget on Friday, alleged that there is “noting in the budget for public servants…they are in for a rough ride over the next 4 years…” Jordan said on Facebook.

The 2021 budget saw the removal of VAT on construction materials, basic food items; residential and mobile internet services; a five per cent reduction in water rates; reduced cost to travelling to hinterland communities along with a $15,000 grant to children in public schools and an increase in pension.
