Soldiers being investigated for rape pulled from Mabaruma
The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has pulled the five soldiers who are being investigated for rape at Mabaruma in Region One and Monday afternoon said it has convened a Board of Inquiry.
The GDF had earlier stated that the soldiers are cooperating with the police as the investigation is ongoing. It is not clear if the men have been charged by the Police.
“The conduct and professionalism of our ranks are premiere factors in our mission accomplishment.
“The Force will therefore spare no measure to ensure our ranks uphold our Values and Standards, and maintain the confidence of the communities which we are sworn to serve and defend,” the Army said in a statement.
It further said the Force’s operational posture on the border remains alert “and the safety and security of our citizens is assured.”
