Sophia man who stabbed handyman to death charged with murder

Twenty-six-year-old Randy Wiggins was on Monday remanded to prison for the murder of a 36-year-old handyman who was fatally stabbed during a confrontation.

Wiggins of ‘D’ Field Reserve Dam, Sophia, appeared before Magistrate Roschelle Liverpool at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court and was remanded to prison until March 24.

He was not required to plead to the charge which alleged that on February 8, 2021 at C’ Field Reserve Dam, he murdered Kevin Smith, 36.

According to reports, Smith was attacked in his ‘C’ Field home by Wiggins, who was armed with a knife.
A scuffle ensued between them and Wiggins stabbed Smith to his chest, lower abdomen and above his left knee.

Wiggins made good of his escape while Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor with the emergency medical technician (EMT).

Smith was recently arrested by the police and was charged for the offence.
