Cop under close arrest for allegedly raping woman at Moruca
An alleged rape report has been filed with the police against a serving member of the Guyana Police Force.
The incident is alleged to have taken place on February 15, 2021, at Kumaka, Moruca in the North West District at around 00:30h, the force said in a statement on Tuesday.
The police statement noted that on February 14, at about 16:00 h, the alleged victim was consuming alcohol at a shop situated at Kumaka Water Front with some friends when the accused joined. Some six hours later, the party moved to another location and they continued imbibing.
Hours later, about 00:10 hrs on February 15, 2021, the woman alleged that she became intoxicated and was escorted to her house by the accused and a female friend who then left her alone in the company of the accused.
The victim further stated that about 00:30h, being in a semi-conscious state, she realised she was on her verandah lying on her back naked, while the cop was naked on top, raping her.
She pushed him off and raised an alarm, which alerted the household; the cop escaped. A report was filed to the police and the accused has since been placed under close arrest.
Investigations are ongoing.
