Authorities are awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test on a four-month-old baby girl who suddenly died on Wednesday in Siparuta Village, Region Six.

The Village Toshao, Carl Penux told the News Room that details remain sketchy surrounding the death of the child but noted that a COVID-19 PCR test was done.

The baby’s uncle, Dhanraj Shivmangal told the News Room that about 11:00h on Wednesday, the baby developed difficulty breathing and apparently died in her sleep at around 11:15.

“The father said the child stop breathe and they tried to run with her to the health centre, but by the time they reached, they pronounce her dead,” the uncle explained.

Police Headquarters in a statement reported that an investigation is underway.

According to the police, the father, Andrew Joseph, said the baby was having difficulty breathing before she fell asleep at 11:00h, but when he went to check on her 15 minutes later, he realised she stopped breathing.

While the baby was first taken to the Siparuta Health Centre, she was subsequently transported to the Skeldon Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, the uncle further highlighted that the baby was born with a health condition, but he could not state what condition exactly.

“Actually, the girl born with a sickness and when she born she was on life machine for a few days,” the uncle stated.

Joseph works as a logger and has two older children.
