The West Indians who missed out on selection were Guyanese trio Keemo Paul, Sherfane Rutherford and Romario Shepherd, along with Evin Lewis, Sheldon Cottrell, Darren Bravo, Rovman Powell, Oshane Thomas, Chemar Holder, Alzarri Joseph, Obed McCoy, Jon Ross Jagessar, Fidel Edwards, Jayden Seales, Carlos Brathwaite, Shannon Gabriel, Kyle Mayers and Akeal Hosein.
Eight West Indians have been retained from last season, namely Dwayne Bravo of Chennai Super Kings, Shimron Hetmyer of Delhi Capitals, Chris Gayle and Nicholas Pooran of Kings XI Punjab, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine of Kolkata Knight Riders, Kieron Pollard of Mumbai Indians and Jason Holder of Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Other notable players who went unsold on Thursday were Australian opener Aaron Finch, England pair Jason Roy and Alex Hales, Nepal’s spinner Sandeep Lamichhane and Martin Guptill of New Zealand.
South African all-rounder Chris Morris broke the IPL record for the most expensive overseas buy, going for 16.25 crore to Rajasthan Royals. Royal Challengers Bangalore pair Kyle Jamieson (New Zealand) and Glenn Maxwell (Australia) were the second and third most expensive players at the auction.
Australian Steve Smith will head to Delhi Capitals; Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been snapped up by Kolkata Knight Riders; Indian Test mainstay Cheteshwar Pujara gets a place on the Chennai Super Kings line-up; veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh heads to Kolkata Knight Riders and Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun has been picked by Mumbai Indians.
