Gold miner stabbed to death

Police are investigating the murder of 29-year-old Randolph Semple, a gold miner of Third Avenue, Bartica, Essequibo River, which occurred on Friday evening at Pedymachi Black Water Backdam, Cuyuni River.

Police Headquarters in a statement noted that Semple was at a shop at around 18:00h when he first attacked the suspect – a Brazilian national – and stabbed him in the back with a knife. At the time, the suspect was on the roadway sitting on a motorcycle.

Police said the suspect subsequently armed himself with a knife, approached Semple, and dealt him a stab to his upper chest. The suspect then escaped while Semple collapsed 400 feet away from the shop.

The matter was reported to the police, who, upon arrival at the scene, observed the shirtless body of Semple on the roadway. The body was taken to the Bartica Hospital mortuary.  Investigations are ongoing.
