Super50: McCarthy (6-16) spins Scorpions to memorable win over Pride
Off-spinner Andre McCarthy produced a magical spell of bowling to knock Barbados Pride out of championship honours in the CG Insurance Super50 Cup on Sunday in Antigua.
A win for either team would secure the final semi-final spot, and it was the Scorpions who remain in the hunt for the title after a remarkable game at the Coolidge Cricket Ground.
Chasing 218, Pride were on course for victory at 118-1 in the 22nd over before a huge collapse saw them being bowled out for 167 in the 42nd over.
McCarthy was at his miserly best, claiming 6-16 off 9.1 overs, including a hat-trick, as Pride lost nine wickets for 49 runs.
Left-arm spinner Fabian Allen offered solid support with 2-41.
Only the Pride top four got going with Shai Hope making 51, Justin Greaves 36, Shamarh Brooks 27 and Jonathon Carter 26.
Earlier, Scorpions were in a huge hole at 87-8 in the 25th over with left-arm spinner Joshua Bishop claiming 5-32.
However, the last two wickets yielded 131 runs, with Odean Smith leading the way with an unbeaten 68 off 75 balls (5x4s, 4x6s). Jamie Merchant made 37 off 34 and last man Jeavor Royal made 16 off 22.
Off-spinner Ashley Nurse picked up 2-51.
With the win, Scorpions join Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, Guyana Jaguars and Windward Islands Volcanoes in the semi-finals.
