Fake health and safety inspector shows up at Giftland Mall
The Giftland Group of Companies says that an individual, who claimed to be a Health and Safety Officer, showed up at the mall’s Turkeyen, East Coast Demerara location on Tuesday and refused to identify himself or the organisation he represents.
The company, in a statement, said the individual showed up at about 09:10h and trespassed an unauthorised area in the FoodMaxx Superstore.
“The fake inspector was immediately approached by the Supervisor, Ms. Reya who indicated that the area is authorised for employees only and that he needs to leave. He did not produce any form of identification or government badge in which he continued to intimidate the employees in the respective area,” the company stated.
The statement further noted that the individual proceeded to walk around and purchase items. He was then approached by the security team and again failed to identify himself.
“The Giftland team reached out to the Chief Environmental Health Officer, Mr. Carl Dey inquiring if any health officer was scheduled to conduct an inspection in the FoodMaxx Superstore in which he respectively advised that no one was scheduled. In light of the events that transpired this week, this looks highly suspicious,” the company stated.
