Twin sisters, Amesha Thuesday-Grant and Amelia Thuesday on Wednesday made history with the delivery of their babies within minutes of each other at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.

The Regional Democratic Council of Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) in a social media post said both babies were delivered safely. Amesha delivered a baby girl at 09:10h while her sister, Amelia delivered her baby boy at 09:23h. Both babies also weighed 3kgs 500grams.

“Regional Health Officer, Dr Vishalya Sharma and the Medical Superintendent, Dr Vasanna Henry, were thrilled that the institution was chosen by the mothers to care and manage their deliveries. As such, hampers were provided to the mothers in celebration. Thanks is also being expressed to Dr Rafael Roitor and Midwife, Leah Clarke who delivered both babies,” the RDC statement noted.

In a Facebook post, Amelia thanked God for “bringing me and my sister through safe with our delivery. Twins make twin cousins minutes apart, they both would be celebrating their birthday together whiles me and my twin will do the same.”
