4 years jail for drug mule found with drugs wrapped in condoms
The 23-year-old woman, who swallowed 73 cocaine-filled pellets and who also had cocaine wrapped in condoms and inserted in her vagina, was on Thursday sentenced to four years imprisonment and slapped with a $798,750 fine.
Tamarah Melville appeared before Magistrate Roschelle Liverpool at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court and pleaded guilty to trafficking 775 grams of cocaine.
On February 20, 2021, Melville was arrested by the police at the Eugene F. Correia International Airport, Ogle, East Coast Demerara at about 11:00h after she was observed acting suspiciously. The cocaine in her private parts was found during a search, after which she admitted to swallowing the pellets.
Police had reported that Melville was searched just before she boarded a Caribbean Airlines flight #BW 215 destined for Barbados.
She was transported to the hospital where she excreted the pellets.
