After spending the last two months on remand for the murder of Kitty, Georgetown contractor Peter Gonsalves, 28-year-old Kacey Heyliger had the charge against him withdrawn based on the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Heyliger was before the Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates Court.

Last month, 25-year-old Daniel Parris of ‘D’ Field Sophia, Turkeyen was also arrested and arraigned in court for the same offence.

When the case was called on Monday, the court was informed of the DPP’s position on Heyliger and as such, the Chief Magistrate discharged the matter, and he was freed. However, the case will proceed against Parris.

On December 7, 2020, Gonsalves of Pere Street, Kitty was gunned down in front of the Red Bar on Garnett Street, Georgetown. The incident occurred at about 21:45h.

Gonsalves, who was on his black and white Honda XR motorcycle, was reportedly being trailed by Parris and another man, on a motorcycle. He was shot multiple times after he tried fighting off the two men, who eventually escaped with his motorcycle.

One of Gonsalves’ employee, who was also on the motorcycle with him at the time of the incident, escaped unharmed.

Heyliger of Shell Road, Kitty, Georgetown was arrested by police in December while Parris was later arrested by ranks from Police Major Crime on February 4. Parris reportedly confessed to shooting Gonsalves and took police to find the stolen motorcycle.
