Driver in serious condition after fuel truck crashes on Mahdia trail
A 35-year-old driver, Magiva Akeem Charles, is in a serious condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital after the lost control of the fuel truck he was driving along the Konawak Trail, Mahdia in Region Eight (Potaro/Siparuni).
Police in a statement said the accident occurred on Sunday at about 11:30h.
According to reports, Charles and a 21-year-old porter were descending a muddy hill along the Konawak Trail when the rear of the lorry began to slide, causing the driver to lose control.
As a result, the vehicle careened off the southern side of the Konawak Bridge and into the creek.
Police said Charles was pinned in the driver’s seat and received several injuries about the head and body; the porter escaped unhurt and managed to free Charles with the assistance of public-spirited persons.
Charles was first taken to the Mahdia District Hospital and later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
