GGOTA to host CPR course, Health and Wellness workshop

The executive members of the Guyana Gym Owners and Trainers Association (GGOTA) held their first in-person meeting for the new year at the weekend and agreed on proposed dates for some of the activities planned for 2021.

During the meeting, which was chaired by President of the association, Noshavyah King, the members agreed to host a CPR Course on April 25 and a Health and Wellness Workshop on May 23.

Both activities will be held at the Genesis Fitness Gym on D’Urban Street, Georgetown.

During the meeting, it was also disclosed that the association’s executives plans to have courtesy calls with Ministers of the government and will also hold meetings with gym owners along with the top brass of the Guyana Olympic Association in the coming weeks.

The Importance of Nutrition, Strength and Conditioning, Gym Etiquette and Massage Therapy are some of the topics the Health and Fitness Workshop will cover.

Participants of the CPR course and the workshop will receive certificates upon completion. The price and other details for the workshop and CPR course, will be published in a subsequent article.

The association also endeavours to host a basic training course for persons aspiring to become a trainer or fitness coach, to work with the Ministry of Education school system to assist with educating teachers and students on nutrition, making healthier options available in canteens and also to underscore the importance of physical education from the primary level.

Plans are also in the pipeline to provide workout programmes online and through television for children and adults to encourage physical activity.

Note: The GGOTA is an association formed by the fitness industry for the fitness industry. Since the fitness industry is large yet unorganised and fragmented, GGOTA aims to build and represent a structured community for the betterment of the industry as a whole with focus on addressing the immediate and long-term problems.

Its mission is to improve the health of the nation by encouraging people to be more active, more often. GGOTA provides services and facilitates partnerships for a broad range of organisations, all of which support the vision and have a role to play in achieving that goal.

The association’s formidable body representing the entire fitness industry in Guyana, its members and partners will include local gyms and studios from across the public, private and adjacent sectors.
