An accident on the Berbice River Bridge public road on Thursday afternoon claimed the life of 33-year-old Vijay Jaigobin and left his 30-year-old wife, Sherry Alicia Jaigobin in an unconscious state at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Police Headquarters reported that Vijay was driving motorcar PYY 6586 in a western direction at a fast pace when he lost control, collided with a concrete culvert on the northern side of the road and then ended up in a nearby trench. The accident occurred at around 17:45h.
The couple was removed from the car, which landed upside down, in an unconscious state and taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where Vijay was pronounced dead. His wife was treated and transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital in an unconscious condition.
The couple resides at Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice. Investigations are ongoing.
