DeSinco Limited on Monday honoured 110 teachers to celebrate International Women’s Day. The company said the initiative was done in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, who identified 10 teachers from the 11 educational districts of Guyana.
DeSinco Limited through its LIFEBUOY brand provided the teachers selected by the Ministry of Education with food and sanitation hampers.
DeSinco noted that the theme for this year’s celebration is “#Choose to Challenge”. The UN captures the theme as “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world”, by celebrating the tremendous efforts of women and girls around the world in shaping a more equal future and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This is because women stand at the front lines of the COVID-19 crisis, as health care workers, caregivers, innovators, community organizers and as some of the most exemplary and effective national leaders in combating the pandemic,” the company stated.
In a statement, Marketing Director Alicia DeAbreu recognized the hard work of all teachers, men and women, but said the company chose to celebrate women because of the general inequality that many face in the workplace.
The company said as a woman leader herself, DeAbreu believes and lives by the values of empowering women through education, self-development and promotion for hard work.
Representing the Ministry of Education was Deputy Permanent Secretary, Indranie Ramnarine, who received the gifts on behalf of the teachers.
