81 new COVID-19 cases from 743 tests

The Ministry of Health reported on Wednesday that Guyana recorded a total of 81 new COVID-19 cases, the highest number of new cases for a single day recorded in weeks.

A total of 743 tests were conducted with the new cases taking the country’s overall number of confirmed cases to 8,928.

A breakdown of the new cases shows that Region Four recorded the majority of new cases with 43 persons testing positive while Region Three recorded 26 new cases.

Region Five recorded three news cases, while Region Six and Nine recorded two new cases. The remaining Regions – One, Two, Seven, Eight and Ten recorded a single case each.

To date, 8,211 persons have recovered, with Guyana’s total number of deaths standing at 205, the latest death is a 59- year old man from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), who died while receiving treatment at a medical facility.

There are 472 patients in home isolation, 32 patients are in institutional isolation and eight patients are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit at the Infectious Disease Hospital.
