A 39-year-old mother of four has been recorded as Guyana’s latest COVID-19 death, taking the toll to 206, the Ministry of Health announced on Thursday.

Monique Desouza of Ituni Region Ten (Upper Demerara-Berbice), died on Wednesday, March 10.

The News Room was reliably informed that Desouza was admitted to the Infectious Diseases Hospital at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara two weeks ago.

She had recent surgery at a hospital, after which she began to experience COVID-19 symptoms. She is the ninth person to have died this month.

All Guyanese are reminded to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 EMERGENCY MEASURES (NO.15), which are in effect until March 31, 2021. This order emphasises:

  • the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving your home;
  • the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others;
  • and the need for good hand-hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
