    Nightclub owners, managers arrested for breaching curfew

    Owners of several nightclubs, including Sleep-In Bar and Casino, were arrested between Friday night and early Saturday morning for breaching the national curfew in place to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

    Police Headquarters in a statement said that the owner of Sleepin-In Bar and Casino, Clifton Bacchus, and two bartenders were arrested along with Meer Rahaman – the owner of Club Altitude on Sandy Babb St, Kitty – and 18 others; the manager of Kairos Bar on Charlotte Street, Bourda, Mark Alleyne and the bartender of Club Privilege on Main St Georgetown, Delon Moffett and his assistant, Akeem Carmichael were also arrested.

    They were all placed on cash bail pending charges in the court. The police statement noted that it was an operation conducted by ranks of the National COVID-19 Task Force, Guyana Defence Force, and the Guyana Police Force.

    The operation was conducted between 22:00 hrs and 03:30 hrs. The national curfew is from 10:30pm to 04:00am.
