Sugar workers attached to the Uitvlugt estate, West Coast Demerara on Tuesday staged a picketing exercise to demand that the Guyana Sugar Corporation Inc (GuySuCo) ends its procrastination regarding wage/salary discussions, the Union GAWU stated.

Like their colleagues of Albion and Blairmont, who picketed on Monday, GAWU said the Uitvlugt workers are peeved that though they have expressed a willingness to find a settlement, GuySuCo continues to engage in delaying tactics for some unknown reason.

“The workers lamented that the GuySuCo hierarchy has taken their cooperative attitude for granted,” GAWU stated in a press release.

It said the workers have learnt that while they are asked to be patient they are learning that some in the top brass of the sugar company may be engaged self aggrandizement and this undermines the calls for cooperation.

The Uitvlugt workers expressed their willingness to engage the Corporation meaningfully in finding an amicable settlement to the long standing issues.

“They are, like their colleagues of Albion and Blairmont, hopeful that the Corporation could come to its senses and serious talks could begin in earnest with a view to finding a solution,” GAWU stated.
