Taje Singh, 45, a prisoner who escaped from the Lusignan Prison on the East Coast of Demerara early Wednesday, has been recaptured within 12 hours of his escape.
Police said he was arrested at Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo Wednesday evening.
A hunt was launched by the Guyana Prison Service and Guyana Police Force after Singh jumped the southern prison fence and escaped into a clump of bushes at about 07:10h on Wednesday.
He is serving a sentence for unlawful wounding and larceny of a water pump.
