Mayers, Chase among the runs as warm-up ends in draw

The two-day, warm-up game between Sri Lanka and the West Indies President’s XI ended in a draw on Thursday at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua.

West Indies resuming on 103-1 in response to Sri Lanka’s 172, were bowled out for 294. Shai Hope added just eight to his overnight 60, while Darren Bravo was dismissed without addition to his overnight 30.

Kyle Mayers, who made a historic debut double-hundred in the series win against Bangladesh, made 57, while Roston Chase, who is not part of the West Indies Test squad to face the Sri Lankans, scored 52 to back up his 4-12 with the ball.

Bowling for Sri Lanka, Dananjaya DeSilva picked up 3-26, Lasith Embuldeniya 3-69 and Suranga Lakmal 2-14.

Sri Lanka, batting a second time, reached 56 without loss when bails were lifted, with openers Dimuth Karunaratne (27*) and Lahiru Thirimanne (23*) safely negotiating the final 13 overs of the match.

West Indies and Sri Lanka will clash in two Test matches, starting March 21 and 29.
