Police find stolen boat engines, ammo during raid along Berbice River

A stolen 15 HP Yamaha outboard boat engine was recovered during a raid along the Berbice River on Thursday. Police Headquarters in a statement said another engine, a 40 HP Yamaha was also discovered along with twenty-four .45 caliber rounds, one .38 round, two 12 gauge cartridges and one .45 caliber magazine.

According to the police report, the raid was conducted in three communities – Sand Hill, Hururu and Paraway – between 06:00h and 13:00h.

The ammunition and engines were discovered in the house of a 20-year-old unemployed man. Police said he reportedly saw the ranks and managed to escape but dropped an orange and yellow haversack. The ammunition was found inside the haversack.

Meanwhile, police said the owner of the 15 HP Yamaha outboard engine has since identified the engine.

The suspect remains on the run as investigations continue.
