Big Man Cricket: Lakhan powers Essequibo Eagles to win over Upper Corentyne

Opening batsman Dharmendra Lakhan smashed an unbeaten 45, which led Essequibo Eagles to a comprehensive eight-wicket victory when the Big Man Cricket tournament continued at the weekend.

The right-hander struck four fours and one maximum in his knock, which helped Eagles to cruise to the target of 96 in just 15 overs at the Georgetown Cricket Club, Bourda.

Lakhan shared an opening stand of 61 with Dharmendo Lall, who made 26. Suruj Mohan took 2-20 in three overs.

Earlier, Beesham Seepersaud (3-14) and Ramesh Narine (3-17) shared six wickets to restrict Upper Corentyne to 95-9 in 20 overs.

The Berbice unit made a solid start with openers Gobin Roopram and Nogi Khan adding 26 before Khan was dismissed for 13.

Roopran went on to make 20, hitting two fours, while Kumar Mathura top-scored with 23; Michael Singh was unbeaten on 15.

In the other games on Sunday, West Dem Vipers defeated Timothy Motorcycle Masters by five wickets; West Bank Warriors defeated GT Royal Rangers by 84 runs; and Jai Hind Jaguars gained a walkover from Real Warriors.
