Police Sports Club (PSC) defeated Guyana National Industrial Company Incorporated (GNIC) by an innings and 100 runs when the Georgetown Cricket Association First-Division two-day tournament resumed at the weekend.

Lanky off-spinner Kelvin Leitch spun his magic for returns of 5-25 in 6.3 overs which cemented the dominant weekend by the hosts.

With a deficit of 194, GNIC were bundled out in their second innings for 94 in 25.3 overs with David Dick (27) being the top-scorer; he had some support from Jerimiah Benjamin (13) and Jermaine Grosvenor (12).

Antony Adams had 2-21 in 11 overs, while there was a wicket apiece for Ronsford Beaton (1-13) and Quintin Sampson (1-18).

Police had resumed the day on 242-6 with Kevlon Anderson on 93; he progressed to 106 before being struck in front.

While Anderson’s ton was more sedate, Sampson struck nine maximums and five fours in a 55-ball 106.

The duo shared a 177-run stand which brought the lawmen back into the game after being 68-6. Beaton at number 11, cracked a quick 22, which got PSC over the 300-run mark. Dwain Dick took 4-75 in 20 overs while Benjamin had 2-36.

In GNIC’s first innings, they were dismissed for 110 in 40 overs led by Beaton with 4-31 in nine overs and Alex Algoo with 2-6 and Adams 2-29.

Benjamin made 33, while the next best scores were Grosvenor (17) and David Dick (11).
