T&T player tests positive for COVID-19 ahead of clash with Guyana

A Trinidad and Tobago player has tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of that nation’s 2022 World Cup Qualifier game against Guyana’s Golden Jaguars on Thursday (March 25) in the Dominican Republic.

The player was immediately isolated from the team’s hotel, News Room learnt on Wednesday afternoon via a press statement by the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA).

Following the latest set of COVID-19 PCR testing for all members of the Men’s National Team contingent in Santo Domingo, there was a positive result for a player on the night of Tuesday March 23rd, 2021.

The individual tested positive and was immediately isolated at the team’s hotel. All COVID-19 protocols are being followed and he is presently awaiting a retest for confirmation purposes.

Strict contact tracing was then performed and all primary contacts have been quarantined, they would then be tested accordingly following the player’s retest results. The player is asymptomatic at this time.

The TTFA also respects the confidentiality wishes of the player.
