Bonner’s maiden ton helps West Indies salvage draw

A maiden hundred from Nkrumah Bonner led West Indies to a hard-fought draw against Sri Lanka in the first Test in Antigua on Thursday.

West Indies, set a target of 375, resumed the final day on 34-1 and closed on a respectable 236-4, batting exactly 100 overs.

Bonner dropped anchor, facing 274 balls for his unbeaten 113, which included 13 fours and one six. Kyle Mayers played a decent hand, hitting 52.

Kraigg Brathwaite made 23 from 124 balls, as Lasith Embuldeniya and Vishwa Fernando claimed two wickets each. Final scores in the match: Sri Lanka 169 and 476; West Indies 271 and 236-4.

The second and final Test will commence on March 29 at the same venue.
