Police on Friday arrested a male security guard attached to a business entity in Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara after he was found in possession of an AR15 rifle and five matching rounds of ammunition without being the holder of a license.

Police Headquarters, in a statement, said that the male security guard also admitted that he did not undergo any type of training on how to use the weapon, even though he is attached to a security firm.

According to the police report, the discovery was made when a party of police, led by an Inspector, were on duty distributing National Covid-19 Task Force Advisory flyers in anticipation of the upcoming Phagwah celebrations on the West Coast of Demerara.

At the business entity, they observed the armed security guard, and when he was asked to produce his precept, he stated that he was never issued with one.

“He was further questioned as it relates to the training that he had received in using the said weapon and he further stated that he never received any training with that type of weapon.

“The inspector then took possession of the rifle and ammunition and escorted the security guard to Leonora Police Station where the items were lodged and he was placed in custody assisting with further investigation.”
