Tuschen driver stabbed to death during drinking spree

A 41-year-old fisherman of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo, is in police custody in connection with the murder of Floyd Mc Garrell, a 34-year-old driver of Tuschen, Wrong Turn Squatting area.

Police Headquarters, in a statement, noted that the incident occurred at around 04:45hrs on Sunday at Back Street Tuschen Squatting Area.

It is alleged that Mc Garrell was consuming alcohol with the suspect and two other friends about 75 feet away from his house. He reportedly left his friends and went home for a while, after which he went back to continue consuming alcohol with the same friends.

Shortly after, around 04:00hrs, Mc Garrell’s reputed wife said she heard an argument. As a result, she went to the scene and observed her husband and the suspect in a heated argument during which the suspect allegedly dealt Mc Garrell a cuff to his face and then stabbed him to the abdomen with a pair of scissors.  The suspect then escaped.

The wounded Mc Garrell was assisted home, after which his reputed wife went to a neighbour’s house for assistance to take him to the hospital. The woman said that when she returned from the neighbour, she found her husband lying motionless. She raised an alarm and then reported the matter to the Leonora Police Station.

The police later found the suspect and arrested him.

McGarrell’s body is at the Ezekiel Funeral Home at Best Village, West Coast Demerara, awaiting an autopsy.
