Woman, 30; Man, 78, die from COVID

Two more persons who tested positive for COVID-19 died on Saturday (March 27), taking Guyana’s death toll to 227 since recording its first case in March 2020.

The latest fatalities are one female, age 30, and one male, age 78, both from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica). They died while receiving care at a medical facility.

These persons take the death toll for the month of March thus far to 28, making it one of the deadliest months for COVID-19 here.

The Ministry of Health is also appealing to the general public to respect the confidentiality of the two deceased and their families and to allow them to mourn their tragic loss in peace.

All Guyanese are reminded to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 EMERGENCY MEASURES (NO.15), which are in effect until March 31, 2021. This order emphasises:

  • the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving your home;
  • the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others;-
  • and the need for good hand-hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
