An accident on the Melanie Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD), on Monday morning resulted in the death of 31-year-old Leon Singh, a motorcyclist of Enmore, ECD.
Police Headquarters in a statement noted that the 43-year-old driver of the canter truck (GSS 5634), was proceeding north on the western side of the road and failed to stop at the corner. As such, he drove into the path of Singh, who was riding motorcycle CH 3066.
The impact of the collision sent Singh flying off the motorcycle; he received severe injuries to the head and other parts of the body. Singh was picked up by public-spirited persons in an unconscious condition and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he died while receiving treatment.
The accident occurred at around 09:30hrs. The driver is in police custody as the probe continues.
