Boy, 11, drowns during fishing trip

The body of 11-year-old Latchman Ramanand of Foulis, East Coast Demerara, was recovered at the Enmore Foreshore minutes after he drowned on Monday afternoon.

The News Room understands that Ramanand and two friends left to go fishing at the shore at about 15:00h on Monday. According to the Regional Commander, Senior Superintendent, Khali Pareshram, the lad went out into the water and the tide took him away.

An alarm was subsequently raised by the two friends after he did not resurface, and minutes later, residents recovered his motionless body.

He was rushed to the Dr. CC Nicholson Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
