Labourer charged with attempted murder of wife
A 30-year-old man was granted $500,000 bail on Tuesday for the attempted murder of his reputed wife, whom he severely chopped during an argument last week.
Richard Mohamed, of Friendship, Lower Pomeroon River, Region Two, and of Huntley, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara, was arrested on March 25. He appeared at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Esther Sam, and was not required to enter a plea.
The case was adjourned to April 19, 2021, and was transferred to the Charity Magistrate’s Court.
The chopping incident occurred in the wee hours of March 25; the 23-year-old victim remains in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Police said she lost several fingers and was also chopped to the head and other parts of the body. The young woman, who has five children from a previous relationship, is said to be six weeks pregnant.
