Texila American University (TAU) and Smartlabz, in partnership with Ministry of Education, has launched its CXC Academy, a digital education tool designed to assist students writing the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
The CXC Academy functions as a supplementary and structured practice tool for CSEC students writing exams this year. The platform, which was launched by Texila American University on Wednesday, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, can be accessed by students in Guyana and throughout the Caribbean region free of cost.
The platform comprises an extensive database of CSEC examination questions for seven subject areas: English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Principles of Business, and Principle of Accounts.
The material was designed by trained teachers in the Caribbean region and it is also based on the CSEC syllabus for each subject. The Chief Executive Officer at the University, Syam Kumar, during brief remarks, said the platform is part of giving back to society.
“We have further plans to enhance the portfolio and add more subjects and more questions over a period of time. We are really excited about this opportunity and I sincerely hope this initiative will pave way for further technological advancement in the field of education in Guyana,” Kumar said.
Minister of Education, Priya Manickhand, noted that it has been challenging a time for learners and commended Texila for paving the way to assist students during this time.
Meanwhile, the platform also offers a revision period for the students after which, the students can take mock examinations to test their understanding and competency of sub-topics. Students can register with CXC Academy by visiting its official website at cxc.academy.
When students sign-up for CXC Academy, they receive access to a host of features, such as virtual revision classes for all subjects, which expert teachers will conduct on a bi-monthly basis. During revision sessions, students will receive in-depth explanations and guidance to assist them in their examinations. The CXC Academy platform will also be used to share valuable examination tips and techniques.
Meanwhile, teachers can sign up and access resources, while schools can also register with CXC Academy by visiting the website.
