COVID death toll for March moves to 34

Two more persons who tested positive for COVID-19 have died taking Guyana’s overall death toll since March 2020 to 233.

The latest fatalities are two women – a 91 year- old from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) and an 84-year-old from Region 10 (Upper Demerara- Berbice). They both died on March 31, while receiving care at a medical facility.

The latest fatalities also mean that 34 persons died for the month of March, making it one of the deadliest months since COVID-19 hit these shores.

All Guyanese are reminded to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 EMERGENCY MEASURES (NO.16), which are in effect until April 30, 2021. This order emphasises:

  • the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving your home;
  • the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others;
  • and the need for good hand-hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
