Men robbed of millions while dining at Pouderoyen restaurant


Police are on the hunt for two armed suspects, who robbed a Speed Boat Captain and a Sales Representative at gunpoint of millions in cash, gold jewellery and electronics while they dined at a Chinese Restaurant at Pourderoyden, West Bank Demerara (WBD).

The incident occurred between 20:15hrs to 20:30hrs on Saturday.

Police Headquarters in a statement noted that the Speed Boat Captain, Navindra Kooblall, 34, and the Sales Representative, Leon Dyal, 33, were dining in the Hong Xiang Chinese Restaurant at Lot 15 Pouderoyen when the suspects stormed into the premises and held them at gunpoint.

The entire ordeal was captured on CCTV footage and recorded the two suspects, both masked, sporting side bags in which they carried their firearms.

The gunmen, according to police, relieved Kooblall of six gold chains valued at $2,145,000; two gold rings valued at $220,000; one gold band valued at $400,000; one iPhone pro 11 max cellphone valued at $320,000; one Samsung A17 cellphone valued at $150,000; and US$1,500; totaling a whopping GY $3,320,460.

From Dyal, the suspects carted off with one Samsung A50 cellular phone valued at $60,000; GY$155,000 in cash; and US$200 cash; totalling GYD $255,000.

After relieving the victims of their belongings, the two escaped in a white 221 motor car which was waiting nearby.

Police officers, who arrived on the scene shortly after, reportedly commenced a search in the area but turned up empty-handed.

So far, several persons have been questioned by the police.
