Six COVID-19 deaths in one day

The Ministry of Health on Sunday reported two more COVID-19 deaths, taking Guyana’s overall death toll to 243.

The latest fatalities are two men, one 73-year-old and another 62-year- old from Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) and Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), respectively.

They both died while receiving care at a medical facility on April 3, 2021.

Four others also died the same day, which means that six persons died in one day from the dreaded virus.

The two latest deaths are the ninth and tenth deaths to be recorded for the month thus far; a total of 36 persons died in March, making it one of the deadliest months for COVID-19 here.

All Guyanese are reminded to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 EMERGENCY MEASURES (NO.16), which are in effect until April 30, 2021. This order emphasises:

• the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving your home;
• the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others;
• and the need for good hand hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
