Stanton Rose to lead Guyana in WC Pre-Qualifiers

Guyana’s Head Coach Junior Hercules has decided on his final 12-man roster for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Americas Pre-Qualifiers in San Salvador, El Salvador.

The Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation said the national team boss has included as much size as possible while parading some of the country’s most promising young talents.

2018 CBC MVP Stanton Rose will captain the team with support from co-captain and 2019 BCL and Intercontinental Champion, Delroy James.

The lone naturalised player Deylon Bovell from Berkley College will make his debut. The up-and-comers that will gain valuable experience are Israel Yaw and Yonnick Tappin.

Coach Hercules commended all invited players for their dedication to the national cause and thanked them for their efforts.

The accompanying delegation will include:

  • Junior Andrew Hercules – Head Coach
  • Dennis Clarke – Assistant Coach
  • Alex Graham – Head of Delegation
  • Dr. Dennis Bassier – Team Doctor
  • Akeem Fraser – Physiotherapist
  • Warren Wilson – COVID-19 Compliance Officer

Team Guyana will begin their campaign against Nicaragua on Thursday, April 15, 2021.

  • Game 1: Thursday, April 15 – 21:00h GYT – Guyana vs Nicaragua
  • Game 2: Friday, April 16 – 18:00h GYT – Guyana vs Jamaica
  • Game 3: Saturday, April 17 – 21:00h GYT – Guyana vs El Salvador
  • Game 4: Sunday, April 18 – 18:00h GYT – Guyana vs Costa Rica
