Mon Repos residents robbed of jewellery, cash by gunmen

Police are on the hunt for three bandits who robbed two men of their valuables at Mon Repos School Road, East Coast Demerara on Sunday night.

Police Headquarters in a statement noted that Rameez Mohamed, a businessman, and his friend Ryan Singh, were having a few drinks with friends when the gunmen approached them at around 20:30hrs.

Police said one of the friends upon seeing the men said, “watch them man” and so the friends started to run.

While Mohamed was running he fell to the ground and two of the men then relieved him of one Samsung A 71 with sim valued at $50,000; one Samsung J8 valued at $40,000; one gold ring valued at $300,000; a gold chain valued at $250,000 and $175,000 cash.

Police said Singh was lashed to his head with a gun by one of the perpetrators, causing him to lose consciousness; he was relieved of one Samsung S21 with sim valued at $50,000, and $25,000 in cash.

According to the police report, the gunmen escaped on separate bicycles heading west into a nearby street. Investigations are ongoing.
